- ABOUT TAIPEI -

Taipei is Taiwan’s largest city as well as its economic, political, and cultural center. It is a modern cosmopolitan metropolis with a lively and diversified face, filled with exuberance. From the world’s tallest building (2004-2010) to the biggest collection of Chinese art, Taipei invites you into a world of fascinating contrasts – a mix of the modern and traditional, with a generous dash of energy and friendly smiles to make this one of your most memorable trips to Asia.

The cultural kaleidoscope of Taiwan’s capital city pulses wherever you go. Incense – veiled temples dating back to dynastic times blend seamlessly with a neon street life of a decidedly more modern era. Taipei has dozens of world – class restaurants where gourmets can sample the best regional Chinese cuisine; and for the gourmand, there are plenty of night markets serving up scrumptious evening snacks in an environment of chaotic excitement and fun.

Let Taipei Entice Your Senses…

Taste

The markets around Taipei 101 and the Xinyi district will excite your taste buds. A visit to one of Taiwan’s traditional “wet” markets can be both shocking and stimulating for the senses. Loud, congested and lively, the wet market in Xinyi has long been a source of traditional street eats that far outstrip the tastes of the more touristy night markets. You will be able to find a mind-boggling assortment of cooked foods. The markets are called “wet” due to the ever-damp floors, hosed down frequently. The culinary discoveries in Taipei are endless; From some of Taiwan’s most famous dishes like stinky tofu and betel nut to classic local favorites like sold sesame noodles, Taipei will not disappoint. Enjoy seasonal fruit and piping hot green onion bread as you make your way through the markets. Take time to savor the best, award-winning Taiwanese burger (刈包 – gua bao) that Taipei has to offer.

Smell

They say that every flower is a soul blossoming in nature. On every weekend and holiday, the Jianguo Holiday Flower Market is the perfect place to indulge in the sweet scent of one of nature’s most divine creations. Do you have “green fingers”? Besides flowers and plants, Jianguo Holiday Flower Market also sells floral instruments and seeds. For those who prefer to see the flowers bloom in their natural environment, the Da’an Forest Park is sited just right beside the Jianguo Holiday Flower Market.

Touch

Taipei City’s northernmost district, Beitou began to rise as a hot spring destination in 1896, when a Japanese businessman named Hirada Gengo opened the area’s first hot spring hotel Tenguen. Broadly speaking, the Beitou hot springs region refers to an area covering the Hell Valley, Longfeng, Fenghuang, Hushan Village and Xingyi Road. The area can be accessed by a short ride (approximately 30 minutes) on Taipei MRT Danshui Red Line. The springs here are fed by water from Dire Valley (Diregu) (Hell Valley) and Longfeng (Longfong) Valley near Xingyi (Singyi) Road. Bathing facilities are equally varied, with everything from traditional Japanese-style bathhouses to fashionably modern spas catering to day-trip and overnight visitors.

As the heart of the heart of Taiwan’s artistic pulse, Huashan 1914 Creative Park is located at the site of the former Taihoku Winery. This special location serves as Taipei’s primary creative arts center, hosting some of Taiwan’s most significant cultural activities, like the the Simple Life music festival and the BiBo student design expo. The buildings here were constructed by the Japanese in 1914 as a sake plant and were later re-purposed as the Taihoku Winery. After the winery relocated in 1987, the plant remained as a museum of industrial building technology. This interesting history makes the park a bridge to Taiwan’s unique architectural past and it is home to a number of restaurants, art galleries, cultural and creative stores, and performance venues.

Vision

Admire the romantic Taipei skyline and the most striking feature of the Miramar Entertainment Park: a 95-meter-high, 70-meter-in-diameter Ferris wheel that lights up at night with three distinct, neon color schemes. The Miramar Entertainment Park is a new-age shopping and entertainment complex built with the idea of offering enough consumption and entertainment options to keep visitors occupied for a full-day stay. Feast your eyes on a variety of local and international brand stores. If you are not too fond of shopping, enjoy a unique three-dimensional movie experience at the IMAX 3D theatres.
